The General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) reported global sales of 712 new business jets in 2022, up slightly from the 710 new jets sold in 2021. Sales of piston and turboprop airplanes also increased, as did sales of new helicopters. Overall new aircraft deliveries were valued at $26.8 billion, an increase of 6.0%.

Across the other sectors, piston airplane deliveries increase 8.2%, to 1,524 units; turboprop airplane deliveries increased 10.4%, to 582 units and total helicopter deliveries increased 7.5% to 876 units.  “The general aviation manufacturing industry continues to show increasing strength despite workforce and supply chain challenges across our industry," said Pete Bunce, GAMA President and CEO.

The table below shows unit sales of new private jets by manufacturer in 2022, with 2021 unit sales for comparison.

Textron Aviation (Cessna etc) led the market in terms of number of units sold in 2022. The company delivered 25% of all new private jets in 2022 and about 29% of all general aviation airplanes (pistons, turboprops and jets) in 2022. The Cessna Citation Latitude was again the top seller in the mid-size jet category.

The Embraer Phenom 300/300E continues to be the most popular light jet. It is used by large fractional aircraft providers, such as Flexjet and NetJets, and by many charter operators.

The Cirrus Vision SF50 has proven to be an incredibly popular single engine very light or personal jet. The $3m aircraft offers both an emergency autoland system - literally press a button and the plane can land itself - and a whole-aircraft ballistic parachute. It is the best selling jet, with many buyers being indvidual pilot owners, although there are companies like Verijet who use the SF50 for operating air-taxi type services.

Bombardier delivered the last Learjet in 2022. It is now focused on the larger and more profitable Challengers and Globals. Bombardier and Gulfstream are the two biggest manufacturers of these large business jets.

Airbus had a good year with 9 sales of its Airbus Corporate Jets (ACJ's). These are based on the Airbus commercial jets from the A318 to A350.

The relative sizes of the regional markets was similar to prior years. The North American market accounted for 67.6% of private jet deliveries. The second largest market for new private jet deliveries during the year was Europe at 16.3%. North America was also by far the largest market for new piston and turboprop deliveries. The best selling turboprop was again the Pilatus PC-12, which sold 88 new units in 2022 and can be found in both fractional and charter fleets around the world.
